Description
Angelica gigas is a breathtaking, ornamental plant native to Korea and parts of East Asia, known for its towering stature and deep burgundy blooms. This biennial or short-lived perennial features robust, deeply divided green foliage that serves as a lush backdrop for its show-stopping floral display. In late summer, its sturdy, dark purple stems bear large, rounded umbels of deep red to burgundy flowers, creating a bold contrast in garden beds and attracting beneficial pollinators, including bees and butterflies.
Growing up to 3-5 feet (90-150 cm) tall, Angelica gigas thrives in rich, moist, well-drained soil and prefers partial shade, though it can tolerate full sun in cooler climates. It self-seeds readily, making it an excellent choice for naturalistic and cottage-style gardens where it can establish itself with ease. Due to its medicinal and traditional uses in herbal remedies, it is also valued in medicinal gardens.
