Description
Arisaema flavum, also known as the Yellow Cobra Lily or Yellow Jack-in-the-Pulpit, is a fascinating and compact species within the Arisaema genus. Unlike its larger relatives, this variety produces small but vibrant yellow spathes, often with subtle green or reddish-purple tinges, giving it a distinctive and elegant appearance. The spathes encase a central spadix that may develop into striking red berries in late summer, adding multi-season interest.
Growing between 12-18 inches (30-45 cm) tall, Arisaema flavum thrives in partial to full shade, preferring rich, well-drained, humus-rich soil that retains moisture but does not become waterlogged. Its finely divided, umbrella-like green foliage provides a lush backdrop to its unusual blooms, making it an excellent choice for woodland gardens, shaded borders, or rockeries. Hardy in USDA zones 5-9, this perennial is remarkably resilient, requiring minimal care once established.
